PUBLIC NOTICE - - - ORDINANCE 2025-19 LEVYING TAX MILLAGE AN ORDINANCE TO FIX THE RATE OF TAXATION AND LEVY AN AD VALOREM PROPERTY TAX TO DEFRAY THE OPERATIONAL EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF BAKER, STATE OF LOUISIANA, FOR ALL GENERAL PURPOSES FOR THE YEAR 2025 ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF BAKER, LOUISIANA The Mayor and Council of the City of Baker, Louisiana met in regular session in Council Chambers at 3325 Groom Road in Baker, LA, Tuesday, the 9th day of September 2025, and with a proper quorum being there and then in attendance, declared that a public hearing was in session to consider the adoption of the following ordinance: WHEREAS, this ordinance was introduced on August 26, 2025, and after proper notification to the public, a public meeting was scheduled to be held on September 9, 2025. WHEREAS, under the provisions of Article VI, Section 26(B) of the Constitution of the State of Louisiana of 1974, and other constitutional and statutory authority, the voters previously approved an ad valorem property tax authorized up to 7.0 mills. WHEREAS, the maximum millage rate is currently 5.76 mills but the levied rate since the last tax reassessment has been at 5.27 mills. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the City of Baker, Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, as follows, to wit: SECTION 1: IMPOSITION Pursuant to the authority previously granted by the voters to defray the operational expenses of the City of Baker, State of Louisiana, for all general purposes, an ad valorem tax on all taxable property, real and personal, within the corporate limits and boundaries of the City of Baker, Louisiana is hereby fixed and levied at the maximum millage of 5.76 mills on the property’s assessed valuation indicated on the latest tax rolls provided by the Tax Assessor of East Baton Rouge parish. SECTION 2: NOTICE AND COLLECTION The East Baton Rouge Parish Tax Assessor is hereby empowered, authorized and directed to enter the said tax on the Tax Roll for the year 2025, and the Sheriff of East Baton Rouge Parish, State of Louisiana, is hereby fully authorized to collect the same. SECTION 3: SEVERABILITY If any or more of the provisions of this Ordinance shall for any reason be considered illegal or invalid, such illegality or invalidity shall not affect any other provision of this Ordinance, but this Ordinance shall be constructed and enforced as if such illegal or invalid provision had not been contained herein. Any constitutional or statutory provision enacted after the date of this Ordinance which validates or makes legal any provision of this Ordinance which would not otherwise be valid or legal, shall be deemed to apply in this Ordinance. SECTION 4: CONFLICTING ORDINANCES All ordinances or parts thereof, in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. BE IT ALSO FURTHER ORDAINED that the Clerk of Council for the City of Baker, Louisiana shall forward one certified copy of this ordinance to each the Assessor of East Baton Rouge Parish and the Sheriff of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. This ordinance having been submitted to a vote; the vote thereon was recorded as follows: YEAS: Collins, Dunn, Murphy, Vincent, Young NAYS: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None This ordinance was presented and introduced on August 26, 2025, at the regular meeting of the Baker City Council held in the Council chambers in Baker, Louisiana. And the ordinance was declared adopted on this the 9th of September, 2025 at the regular meeting of the Baker City Council held in the Council chambers in Baker, Louisiana.
