PUBLIC NOTICE - - - Notice is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has applied for a 401 Water Quality Certification to clear, grade, excavate, and place fill to construct the Louisiana International Terminal, a new container terminal that will be capable of handling 2,000,000 TEUs at full build out, off East St. Bernard Highway in Violet, St. Bernard Parish. The terminal will consist of 3,600 linear feet of wharf space, required infrastructure for efficient terminal operations, and the realignment of both East St. Bernard Highway and the Norfolk Southern railroad track. In addition, the project includes dredging in the Mississippi River for a turning basin, for fill material for construction, and for facilities on the river. The local relocation of W. Smith, Jr. Elementary School and Violet Number 2 park is also anticipated. The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans is applying to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Office of Environmental Services for a Water Quality Certification in accordance with statutory authority contained in the LAC 33:IX.1507.A-E and provisions of Section 401 of the Clean Water Act.
