PUBLIC NOTICE - - - Draft Environmental Assessment for the Mexichem Fluor LiPF6 Project at the St. Gabriel Site in Iberville Parish, Louisiana (DOE/EA-2236D) The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide financial assistance to Mexichem Fluor, Inc. (Mexichem) for its planned lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) manufacturing unit adjacent to Mexichem’s existing facility in St. Gabriel, Iberville Parish, LA. The proposed project would involve the construction of a LiPF6 manufacturing unit at Mexichem’s property in St. Gabriel, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The total project footprint is 45 acres. The LiPF6 unit would manufacture an electrolyte material used in lithium-ion batteries. The new unit would consist of manufacturing buildings, an administrative building, a utility building, and storage areas. Mexichem would provide 80 full-time equivalent permanent jobs once the proposed unit is fully operational. DOE prepared the Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of providing financial assistance to Mexichem for its proposed project. The Draft EA also contains a floodplain and wetland assessment – as a portion of the proposed project contains actions within floodplains and wetlands. DOE invites public comments on the Draft EA for a period of 15 days. The public comment period is May 29, 2026, through June 12, 2026. DOE will consider late submissions to the extent practicable.
