PUBLIC NOTICE - - - RAPIDES PARISH PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR POSITION The Rapides Parish Police Jury of Rapides Parish, Louisiana, is receiving applications for the department head position of Public Works Director. The position is a non-civil service position. The position is under the direction of the Rapides Parish Police Jury. PAY RANGE - Salary Range of $70,000 - $90,000 (dependent on experience, qualifications and job performance); plus paid Vacation Time, Sick Leave, Retirement and Health Insurance Benefits Package. JOB SUMMARY - Administrative supervision and responsibility for construction and maintenance work in planning, directing and evaluation of all programs and projects related to the expansion, improvement and maintenance of the Parish highway/road system, public drainage, and/or other infrastructure facility projects and performs the necessary and related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB - The work is of unusual difficulty, requiring comprehensive knowledge and experience in roadway and highway construction principles. The Director is responsible for the management of the Public Works Department, supervisors, and office staff personnel. Works closely with the Police Jury in developing, clarifying, and carrying out policies relating to overall responsibility for ensuring the safety and efficiency of all equipment, materials, and other resources of the department. The Public Works Director reports directly to the Police Jury. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE requirements are 10 -15 years of work experience: in supervising and master planning and coordination of construction and improvements of roadways, drainage and other infrastructure facility projects; experience with heavy equipment operation, work, maintenance and repairs – certification preferred; in administration, and/or supervision and personnel issues of a 20-35 department employees; work with multiple work orders and projects, receiving, priority ranking, assigning, coordinating, and ensuring completion of same, in a timely manner; in working with employment supervisors and coordinating communications and current status and completion of work assignments; in proper and professional communications with property owners and citizens is preferred; in proper management of departmental supervisors and 20-35 department employees that were/are your responsibility; in managing and coordinating multiple projects assigned to various outside contractors and ensuring timely completion of projects.
