PUBLIC NOTICE - - - ORDINANCE 2025-18 ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF ZACHARY TO AMEND §§2-199, 2-200 AND 2-201 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES FOR THE CITY OF ZACHARY TO PROVIDE FOR THE SETTING AND ADMINISTRATION OF COMPENSATION FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS WITHIN THE CITY OF ZACHARY AND FOR OTHER MATTERS IN FUTHERANCE OF THIS PROVISION WHEREAS, the City Council for the City (“City Council”) has determined that the City’s current Code of Ordinances (the “CoO”) does not adequately address the setting and ongoing administration of compensation for elected officials within the City; WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it will have been eight (8) years since last addressing compensation for elected officials within the City; THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council that §§2-199, 2-200 and 2-201 of the CoO for the City shall be prospectively deleted in their entirety upon the expiration of the current term of office in January of 2027 and thereafter prospectively those sections are amended to respectively read as follows: CoO Sec. §2-199. - Salary of the Mayor. a) For the term of office commencing January, 2027, the salary of the Mayor shall be fixed at follows: 1. If the term of office for the duly elected individual is the first term of office as Mayor, the annual salary shall be set at One Hundred Ten Thousand ($110,000.00) Dollars. 2. If the term of office for the duly elected individual is the second term of office or greater, the base annual salary for that current term shall be set at One Hundred Fourteen Thousand ($114,00.00) Dollars. b) The annual salary for the Mayor shall increase by One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars per year. c) Regardless of the number of years elected service or terms of office, the salary of the Mayor shall never exceed One Hundred Twenty Five Thousand ($125,000.00) Dollars. d) The Mayor shall be reimbursed for expenses paid or incurred by the Mayor on behalf of the City. e) The salary of the Mayor as set forth herein shall be in addition to the One (1) Consumer Price Index cost-of-living adjustment allowed by Home Rule Charter §2-03 allowed in any term of office of the Mayor. f) If an individual is elected or appointed as Mayor to fill an un-expired or partial term, the salary of that individual shall be set in the manner described in sub-paragraph a) 1. above. g) The Mayor may elect not to receive salary or cost-of-living increases. CoO §2-200. - Salary of the Chief of Police. a) For the term of office commencing January, 2027, the salary of the Chief of Police shall be fixed at follows: 1. If the term of office for the duly elected individual is the first term of office as Chief, the base annual salary shall be set at One Hundred Thousand ($100,000.00) Dollars. 2. If the term of office for the duly elected individual is the second term of office or greater, the base annual salary for that current term shall be set at One Hundred Five Thousand ($105,000.00) Dollars. b) The annual salary for the Chief shall increase by One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars per year. c) Regardless of the number of years elected service or terms of office, the salary of the Chief shall never exceed One Hundred Twenty Thousand ($120,000.00) Dollars. d) The Chief shall be reimbursed for expenses paid or incurred by the Chief on behalf of the City. e) The salary of the Chief as set forth herein shall be in addition to an annual Consumer Price Index cost-of-living adjustments allowed by Home Rule Charter §4-06 allowed in any term of office of the Chief. f) If an individual is elected or appointed as Chief to fill an un-expired or partial term, the salary of that individual shall be set in the manner described in sub-paragraph a) 1. above. g) The Chief may elect not to receive salary or cost-of-living increases. CoO § 2-201 -Compensation of City Council Members. a) For the term of office commencing January, 2027, the monthly compensation of a City Council Member shall be fixed at follows: 1. If the term of office for that duly elected individual is the first term of office as a City Council Member, the compensation shall be set at Fifteen Thousand ($15,000.00) Dollars, payable in monthly installments. 2. If the term of office for that duly elected individual is the second term of office or greater as a City Council Member, the compensation for that current term shall be set at Seventeen Thousand ($17,000.00) Dollars, payable in monthly installments. b) The compensation for a City Council Member shall increase by Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars per year. c) Regardless of the number of years elected service or terms of office, the salary of a City Council Member shall never exceed Nineteen Thousand ($19,000.00) Dollars. d) City Council Members shall be reimbursed for expenses paid or incurred by them on behalf of the City. e) City Council Members may elect not to receive salary increases. f) Notwithstanding the above, council members cannot participate in City insurance. This Ordinance shall become effective upon the expiration of the current term of office - January 2027 pursuant to § 2-10 (C) of the Home Rule Charter adopted by the electors for the City of Zachary.
